Religion.
Being on three weeks holidays at the moment, leaves me with a lot of time to contemplate absolutely everything. One of the aspects of life that is on my mind is religion.
I am an atheist and I am (extremely) proud of it.
When someone asks me if I believe in God, I reply “No, I practice intelligence”.
I understand why religion started and why it existed for a very long time, but I cannot understand why, in 2012, it still has any place in the minds of people. Haven’t we evolved past the point of believing in a man in the sky who created everything and is completely omnipotent?
Personally I am a bit undecided on the validity of the big bang theory, but although I may not believe that this is the method in which everything was created, I believe without doubt that there was no divine intervention involved.
The bible itself (a great piece of fiction), contradicts itself so many times. How are we supposed to be convinced that this god character actually exists, if the only origin source of the story, itself cannot decide on the events that allegedly occurred?
The Earth is a great place, but it is full of destruction, murder, death and misery. So either we live in a godless world or God is real and he is a sadistic malevolent individual which enjoys watching his own creations burn.
